Seman Violins is proud to announce a Bass Workshop with renowned bassist Jim Cox. This workshop is open to beginning and intermediate bass students interested in honing proper form and technique. Jim will focus on the basics of playing the bass and help trouble-shoot early missteps in a student's technique and approach to repertoire. Jim's extensive experience as a musician as well as his easy going demeanor makes him the ideal teacher to help new players progress in their studies. Topics covered will include:

  • left hand technique
  • right hand technique both with and without a bow
  • proper posture and transporting a bass in a Honda civic without severely damaging the bass or the car!

Jim Cox grew up in Champaign, Illinois and received a Bachelor's from the University of Illinois in 1979. He toured with Earl "Fatha" Hines 1980-82. Jim has worked with numerous notable artists, including Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Cheri Lewis and Lamb Chop, Debbie Boone, Daryl Sherman, Morgana King, Helen Forest, Mary Cleere Heron, Betty Buckley, Liza Minelli and Ann Hampton Callaway. For the last 15 years he has worked regularly with pianist Marian McPartland. Jim's extensive discography of over 100 CD's includes projects covering a wide range of musical styles including jazz, bluegrass, klezmer, folk, cabaret and pop.

This workshop is open to students of all ages. Early registration is recommended, as space is limited. To reserve a space, please call 847-674-0690 or email us at sales@semanviolins.com. Feel free to stop by in person as well to try out any of our basses or bows in stock.

Jim also has an advanced workshop coming up as well. For more information, please contact us.
